
A teenage boy's life was tragically cut short in Yucca Valley last week when a car plowed into him and fled the scene; authorities have now identified the victim as Joshua Alexander Barreras, just 17. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department is conducting a vigorous manhunt for the guilty party behind the wheel, with an investigation spearheaded by the Morongo Basin Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.).
The grim discovery was made on January 26, at approximately 8:26 p.m. when sheriff's deputies found Barreras, unresponsive in the central reservation of SR-62, immediately they commenced life-saving efforts, but despite being rushed to Hi-Desert Medical Center, the teen could not be revived, according to Morongo Basin Sheriff's Department.
The authorities have put out an earnest plea for witnesses or anyone with information pertinent to this hit-and-run ordeal to step forward and make contact with the Morongo Basin Station at (760) 366-4175, determined to seek justice for Barreras, in a case marked as No. 232400168, desperate leads may be provided anonymously via We-Tip, at 1-800-78-CRIME, as per sheriff's department statement.
