Deputies cuffed a man on Monday in connection with a Christmas Day attack that left a Loma Linda resident fighting for his life, San Bernardino County officials said. Kendi Pakeybey, 56, a resident of San Bernardino, was identified by investigators as the suspect in the brutal beatdown of 46-year-old Brandon Wilson.
The violent encounter unfolded on a suburban sidewalk in front of 25281 Van Leuven St., where Wilson was found with a bloody head wound on December 25, 2023, at approximately 1:20 p.m., according to a sheriff's department statement. He was unresponsive when deputies arrived and subsequently rushed to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.
Pakeybey, who was last seen fleeing the scene in blue sweats, was arrested for attempted murder and hit with a hefty $1,000,000 bail. Information leading to his arrest came on the back of descriptions provided by witnesses who indicated the assailant was a black male, about 5'8", with an average build, sporting a short afro, and carrying a possible aluminum pole or baseball bat.
The suspect was booked into the West Valley Detention Center after being nabbed by investigators from the Central Station. The public played a key role in Pakeybey's arrest, with the authorities having previously urged witnesses to come forward and share any details with Deputy R. Olivares of the Central Station or anonymously through the We-Tip Hotline.
