A San Francisco man found himself in handcuffs after police discovered a loaded, unregistered handgun and a high-capacity magazine in his vehicle during a routine traffic stop in a Walmart parking lot in the Town of Windsor.
Daniel Ghilarducci, 46, was detained on Wednesday after a deputy noticed the car he was driving bore no license plates and upon further investigation revealed the vehicle hadn't seen a registration sticker since 2020; meanwhile, the driver could not produce a valid license at the scene and a quick peek inside his ashtray uncovered unpackaged marijuana, starting a chain of events that would lead to his arrest. Officers then searched Ghilarducci's car, where they found a Polymer 80 9mm handgun—lacking a serial number hence considered illegal—tucked away behind the passenger seat, equipped with a magazine that could hold 17 rounds, a capacity that stands in violation of California's firearm regulations.
According to a Facebook post by the Town of Windsor Police Department, Ghilarducci was booked on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm and possessing a large-capacity magazine. After being taken to Sonoma County Jail, the suspect posted a $10,000 bail and was subsequently released.
