A tragic loss unfolded in Duluth as a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in a parking lot early Saturday morning, Gwinnett County Police have reported. The victim, identified as Elbert "Josh" Brown of Snellville, was rushed to Northside Hospital Duluth by friends where he initially fought for his life in critical condition, however, authorities were informed Saturday night that Brown succumbed to his injuries 11Alive stated.

The Gwinnett County Police responded to the incident around 2:15 a.m. after the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a closed bowling alley on 4500 Satellite Boulevard, and while details of the events leading up to the shooting remain scarce, the department has not yet identified a suspect or made any arrests in connection with the case, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.

In a drive towards preventing such incidents in the future, Gwinnett County Police have invested in new technologyThe NIBIN system can help us identify shell casings and match them up to weapons and then track those weapons down and then hopefully connect them to whatever crimes they may have been used in." said Sgt. Jennifer Richter.

As the investigation presses forward encouragement comes from Sgt. Richter for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward, "We do not have a suspect in custody. So we are asking that any members of the public who may have information about this case, please get in contact with our detectives," Richter told FOX 5 Atlanta.
