A brazen act of vandalism has shaken a South Austin brewery after a suspect was captured on camera lobbing rocks at the establishment on January 23, causing extensive damage. Kerry Richardson, owner of Last Stand Brewing Company, is now grappling with the aftermath—a shattered facade and a hefty repair bill, according to FOX 7 Austin.
Richardson expressed disbelief at the wanton destruction. "What in the world is going on," he said, describing the rocks as around the size of a baseball. The evening's surveillance footage reveals the perpetrator's casual malice as he hurled stones, obliterating two windows and scarred the business's exterior. Despite the destruction, the brewery was spared an actual break-in. "They didn’t even come into the building, so they had fun, threw rocks in the building and took off," Richardson lamented, "It doesn’t cost them a penny, but they don’t worry about the repercussions for us that, have put in our time, effort and money," as per FOX 7 Austin.
Despite the setback, Richardson and his brewery are determined to recover. "We're looking forward to just moving on and getting past it," he stated, a sentiment that resonates with an entrepreneurial spirit defiant in the face of adversity. The financial toll is substantial, however, with repair costs soaring to at least a thousand dollars, adding to existing damage that's etched into the building's visage. The brewery’s misfortune is set against a larger context of declining burglaries in the area, down from 41 the previous month to 35, as reported by FOX 7 Austin.
The Austin Police Department remains on the hunt for the individual responsible for this act of vandalism and seeks the assistance of the public.
