A routine shoplifting incident on January 6 turned into a felony charge for a 30-year-old South San Francisco man who was already under Post-release Community Supervision (PRCS), San Mateo Sheriff's Office reports. The suspect, identified as Randell Fields, was nabbed by deputies at a Walgreens in Millbrae after allegedly trying to make off with stolen wares.
Responding to a theft in progress at the Walgreens located at 615 Broadway, deputies were quick on the scene where they detained Fields, acting on a detailed description provided by the reporting party, with the incident escalating rapidly as Fields—owing to his previous run-ins with the law on similar petty theft convictions—now finds himself staring down the barrel of a felony charge on account of his past misdeeds according to a press release from the Sheriff's Office.
The recovered merchandise left little doubt as to the identity of the perpetrator, with Fields being positively identified and taken into custody. This isn't Fields' first clash with the law; the specter of his extensive criminal record loomed large over the proceedings, undoubtedly contributing to the gravity of the charges levied against him this time.
Once processed, Fields was escorted to the gates of the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City, where he's been confined against a bail set at $10,000.
