Sugar Land Families in Despair as One Man Remains Missing and Another Found Deceased in Houston

Texas families are grappling with heartbreaking mysteries following the disappearances—and in one tragic case, the death—of two Sugar Land residents in separate incidents. Vicki Urrutia, the mother of 41-year-old Justin Urrutia who went missing in early November, spent a somber Christmas seeking answers, eschewing traditional decorations for a makeshift display in support of her son's safe return. "Christmas was not fun," she lamented in a statement obtained by KHOU. Justin was last seen by his mother just a street over from where she lives, with his wrecked car later found near I-10 in Pecos County, approximately seven and a half hours from his home.

There were eerie similarities highlighted by Vicki Urrutia to another local missing person's case, remarking that the situation was "very much like the Jason Landry missing case." Found in Justin's car were his wallet, cellphone, and unopened energy drinks. In desperate need for leads, Vicki hired a private investigator, Colman Ryan, who hopes to trace Justin's route using his cellphone and computer. However, with surveillance footage scarce and time vital, Ryan acknowledged the ebbing chances of uncovering new evidence, telling KHOU, "Time is of the essence. Most video is around for a week, maybe two weeks. The more time that goes by the less chance you have of getting that evidence.”

In another distressing case, 19-year-old Trevion Butler's family is facing the grim reality of his death after he disappeared and was subsequently found with a gunshot wound in a wooded area in southwest Houston. His body was discovered by a volunteer employing a drone after days of searches by concerned family and friends. Self-harm has been firmly ruled out by the family, with the victim's grandmother stating to KPRC 2, “He never been in jail, he don’t have no record, A-student. Why? Why?”

The details surrounding both cases have left the families frustrated and seeking justice. Before his untimely demise, Trevion Butler was last seen leaving work the previous Wednesday. Andrea Butler, Trevion's mother, pointed to the bizarre turn of events when police arrived at their door in the middle of the night, looking for Trevion after a friend reported a stolen gun. Despite the Sugar Land Police Department's initial lack of findings of foul play, she recovered crucial surveillance video from a neighbor that showed her son near the location where, a volunteer found his body lodged near abandoned apartments, tragically, it was his own. The family still contends with the pain of their loss as Thanksgiving approaches, with Andrea Butler expressing a mother's grief to KPRC 2, “I wish you could just see more of the world. You do not deserve what happened to you.”
