A high-speed chase through the streets of South Los Angeles culminated in gunfire and a suspect being whisked away in an ambulance Friday, authorities said. The man in question allegedly commandeered a white pickup truck and led the LAPD on a pursuit that began around 12:15 p.m., with the driver reaching speeds quickly up to 90 mph.
According to CBS Los Angeles, the suspect believed to be armed with a stolen handgun, tried to avoid capture by taking off on foot after the vehicle pursuit ended. He eventually ran into a building at E Pico Blvd and Paloma Street in downtown LA, precipitating police to establish a tight perimeter around the area.
The LAPD intervention escalated when gunshots rang out inside the building, as reported by KTLA 5 News. The Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the scene after hearing of a shooting, discovering a male suspect, approximately 30 years old, with undisclosed injuries.
Following the crash of the stolen pickup into a parked van at 12:38 p.m., a frenzy of officers had to hastily stream into a nearby warehouse to pursue the fleeing suspect. Eyewitness footage later showcased the apprehended individual being loaded into an ambulance.
Details surrounding the gunfire, the extent of the suspect's injuries, and the status of any other potential victims were not immediately available. Both law enforcement and emergency medical personnel remained on the scene, and the investigation is reportedly ongoing.
