Georgia and South Carolina grapple with power outages in the aftermath of a severe storm that dealt a hefty blow on Tuesday. Georgia Power is on its heels, scrambling to restore electricity with more than 7,000 customers still powerless. Their crews are burning the midnight oil, with a reported progress that managed overnight to shine a light for some residents, according to Atlanta News First.

Utility professionals couldn't mobilize until the tempest's fury abated to safely navigate. “We have to wait until the storm passes through and all of the winds and things have subsided, so our crews can get out there safely,” said Alicia Brown, Georgia Power spokesperson, in a statement obtained by Atlanta News First

Beyond the confines of Georgia Power's territory, Dominion Energy also reports significant outages, numbering around 2,000 in South Carolina's Beaufort County, mostly in the northern part. As the utility knife cuts through the tangled aftermath, updated figures were released pointing out more than 1,000 outages north of Springfield and around 1,500 in Effingham County, per WJCL. It's been a tumultuous tango of destruction and repair that extends down the state.

Hope flickers as reports indicate some regions like Pooler see the return of their electric glow, with outages plummeting from over 4,400 to just about 1,700. Yet, the journey to bring back the current's embrace continues, with about 600 outages still darkening the Springfield area of Effingham County and roughly 700 in Chatham County, Georgia Power disclosed to WJCL
