This survivor was subsequently airlifted to a hospital in Houston for treatment.
The gusto with which the flames were battled allowed for the fire to be extinguished by 7:30 a.m., as reported by Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo in an X post. Despite the harrowing incident, officials reassured that no pollution threat looms over the nearby communities.

Investigative efforts into the origin of the fire are currently underway, with the Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board taking point, the Houston Chronicle further reported. Even after the flames were vanquished, authorities from the Port of Houston confirmed that fire crews would keep vigil over the STRIDE for an entire day following the incident, keeping the vestiges of potential re-ignition at bay.
Assistance in quelling the devastating fire also came from the Baytown and La Porte fire departments, as acknowledged by the Port of Houston. Echoing the earlier reports, the Port also affirmed that there was no imminent threat to the community's safety in the aftermath of the fire. The grim task of investigating the deaths fell to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office and the Medical Examiner's Office, who were also at the scene, according to KHOU.
