A violent early morning crash in Canoga Park, Los Angeles, left two people dead and four injured this Sunday. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that the incident, which involved four vehicles, occurred around 1:45 a.m. in the 7600 block of Topanga Canyon Boulevard. A statement from the LAFD, provided by spokesperson Brian Humphrey, indicated that among the five patients, a man and a woman were found deceased and two were in critical condition after being transported to hospitals, while two others with relatively minor injuries declined ambulance transportation. The LAFD alert detailed that all lanes near the intersection were closed for investigation but were later reopened by morning.

According to a follow-up LAFD update, corrections to the initial report clarified that there were six adult patients in total, including the two deceased. The victims remained trapped in the wreckage, with LAFD announcing their return later that morning to assist the Medical Examiner. The traffic advisory remained in effect, with motorists being warned of congestion and urged to seek alternative routes around Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Saticoy Street.

LAPD provided further insight into the incident. Sergeant Rich Brunson of the Los Angeles Police Department, in a statement obtained by KTLA, said that "The driver of an older model Honda Civic that had been traveling southbound and for some unknown reason crossed over into the northbound lanes and collided with a Toyota Camry." Brunson added that the collision caused the Civic to rotate, resulting in the ejection of the driver and the subsequent death of the passenger in the front right seat.

It was also stated that a parked vehicle was involved in the aftermath of the collision. Sgt. Brunson suggested that speed was likely a contributing factor in the fatal crash. The probe into the tragic event continues, as the involved parties and witnesses are interviewed for a more detailed understanding of the circumstances leading to the collision, according to LAPD. The efforts of first responders and city officials brought a return to normal traffic flow in the area by approximately 7 a.m.
