Pepperell, Mass — Two men were apprehended Saturday in Pepperell after one allegedly struck a Chelsea police cruiser during a high-speed chase, authorities reported. Freddy Deya, 36, and Pedro Cuadrado, 35, are now facing a string of charges, including resisting arrest and illegal possession of ammunition.
According to Boston 25 News, the Pepperell Police discovered Deya's 2020 Toyota Camry in a Foster Street parking lot during a routine check on Saturday afternoon, which was previously involved in a Friday night chase in Revere. State police had failed to apprehend Deya during a pursuit on Route 1A, deciding to not follow him after he fled, taking the decision to rather quickly call off the chase.
Late Friday night, Chelsea police encountered the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, only to be met with Deya's resistance as he struck a cruiser and evaded capture once more. Continued patrol efforts paid off when Pepperell officers, assisted by nearby departments, spotted the vehicle the following day and established a perimeter at about 3 p.m.
A man departing a building, later identified as Cuadrado, fled after being confronted by the police. Shortly after, Deya made an attempt to nonchalantly slip away but was apprehended behind a tree on a vacant lot following a foot chase and K9 tracking. According to NECN, Deya is charged with resisting arrest, trespassing, and being a fugitive from justice, while Cuadrado faces charges related to the improper storage of ammunition and drug possession.
Details around the binational circumstances of the two men's arrest suggest a chaotic culmination of events spanning multiple police jurisdictions. The two are slated to be arraigned at Ayer District Court on a date yet to be determined. The incident prompts a discussion on the lengths individuals will go to avoid law enforcement, and the risks officers face during pursuits.
