Authorities are turning to the public to help urgently track down a Helendale senior citizen who vanished from his home just days before the New Year. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department reported that 68-year-old David Kendall has been missing since Thursday afternoon when he was last spotted at his residence on Schooner Drive in the Silver Lakes neighborhood of Helendale.
Officials described the situation as pressing, given that Kendall deals with onset dementia, making the stakes to locate him quickly even higher. He is known to routinely walk around his local community, frequenting places such as the Mobil Market and the lakeside. The missing man was described as being around 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black and gray jacket, blue jeans, and black boots. Despite being a familiar face in the local community, his condition may render him particularly vulnerable beyond that familiar turf.
According to the sheriff's department appeal, David Kendall's family and the deputies are asking anyone with information on his whereabouts to step forward. The Victor Valley Station and Sheriff’s Dispatch have been fielding calls, while individuals who wish to offer tips anonymously are encouraged to use the We-Tip Hotline or their website.
The case, with the numeral 072304645, is being spearheaded by Detective Curtis Bennington of the Victor Valley Station. Amid the search efforts, San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus has emphasized the importance of community assistance in these types of cases, hoping that residents will quickly come forward with any sightings or leads that may help to safely return Kendall to his home and family.
