In a turn of events before the new year dawned, the Vallejo Police Department nabbed a felon after a stolen vehicle was spotted and a botched escape attempt, the department reported on its official Facebook page. On the last day of 2023, police discovered an occupied 1979 Ford F250, confirmed to have been stolen from Vallejo, in a parking lot on the 1600 block of Fairgrounds Drive. Upon their arrival, the two men inside tried to make a hurried getaway, leading to a quick police chase as the officers switched on their sirens and chased the vehicle.
The driver, while attempting to evade the law, sprinted away from the vehicle with a firearm in hand. His plans to elude the officers came up short when he was cornered and apprehended on the 500 block of Whitney Ave., as per the statement obtained by the Vallejo Police Department. His effort to shake off the trailing officers ended with the discovery of his unregistered firearm during an area search. His counterpart remained in the vehicle, obeyed the officers' directives, and was set free after a background check showing no warrants or criminal involvement.
Further checking revealed the driver's history of multiple burglary and theft convictions. This history, along with the offenses from that evening, culminated in his arrest on multiple felony charges, and he was transported to the county jail. The true owner of the Ford F250 came to the scene and reclaimed possession of the vehicle.
