
In the pre-dawn hours of January 3, a Ventura County Sheriff's Deputy was assaulted with a deadly weapon after confronting alleged burglars in Ventura. The deputy was responding to a call regarding a commercial burglary in progress when the incident turned violent. According to the official report, suspects rammed their vehicle into the deputy, inflicting significant injuries, before fleeing the still scene.
The confrontation took place around 4:39 AM on the 8600 block of North Ventura Avenue. Upon arrival, the deputy approached the suspicious vehicle only to be struck down by the fleeing suspects, as detailed in a news release from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office. It is noted that the deputy, whose name has not been released, was transported to a local hospital received medical care, and was released.
Authorities are now on the hunt for the suspects involved in this brazen assault. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has described the suspect vehicles as a light-colored SUV and a dark-colored sedan. Sergeant Gabriel Gonzales, of the Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau, is leading the call for the public’s assistance in tracking down those responsible for the attack on the law enforcement officer.
