A Victorville drifter found himself cuffed and stuffed into a patrol car after reportedly helping himself to merchandise and then facing off with law enforcement while armed with not one, but two hatchets, authorities told.

On the morning of January 19, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies were summoned to the local Home Depot at 15655 Roy Rogers Drive. There, officers encountered 30-year-old Davon Woodard, who was allegedly causing a ruckus inside before attempting an escape with store items he hadn't paid for, an article stated on the Sheriff-Coroner Department's website.

According to deputies, Woodard’s bid for freedom was short-lived as Deputy C. Barajas managed to detain the ax-wielding man. Woodard faced arrest for robbery and obstructing a public officer, as set out in a report on the sheriff department's official Nixle page.

Woodard's makeshift weaponry of choice was a hatchet in each hand. But Deputy Barajas didn't flinch, placing Woodard into custody with efficient precision. The alleged bandit is now detained at the West Valley Detention Center, his bail fixed at $50,000, authorities said.

Officials at the Victorville station are asking anyone with additional information about this case to contact them directly, or if they prefer anonymity, to use the We-Tip Hotline.
