A Victorville man found hacking away at trees with a large knife was busted for methamphetamine possession over the weekend, sheriff's deputies said.

San Bernardino County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call about a suspicious person on Chamberlaine Way and Bellflower Street in Adelanto at 10:51 a.m. on Saturday. Witnesses reported a man wielding what appeared to be a machete and cutting into trees. When approached, Kelvin McFarland, 25, was still reportedly carrying the knife and seemed to be under the influence of drugs, according to SBSD - Victor Valley Sheriff's Department.

According to the Sheriff's Department, McFarland was arrested and booked into High Desert Detention Center without further incident. The type of knife, confirmed to be a machete, and McFarland's condition suggested methamphetamine use, which led to the specific charge of HS 11550(a): Under the Influence of Methamphetamine.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department claims the investigation is currently active. They urge anyone with information to reach out to Deputy S. Alvarez at the Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station. Confidential tips can also conveniently be provided through We-Tip at 800-78CRIME or their website, as per Victor Valley Sheriff's Department.
