A tragic crash on Route 495 in Franklin claimed the life of a Weymouth man yesterday afternoon, stirring the local community. State Police from the Foxborough Barracks were called to the scene near exit 41 following reports of a rollover accident around 3:30 PM. The 39-year-old man, thrown from his vehicle after it rolled multiple times, was pronounced dead shortly after at a Milford hospital. The name of the Weymouth man has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.
The crash involved a second vehicle, whose operator, after having collided with the first, walked away without injury. Authorities closed the left and center travel lanes of Route 495 for several hours, creating a significant backlog of traffic that did not resume its normal congested hum until after 6:00 PM when the roadway was reopened.
Details about what led to the fatal incident are not yet clear. However, Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash with the aid of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and State Police Detectives from Troop H.
According to authorities, the crash remains under investigation by the State Police-Foxborough Barracks.
