Whataburger, the beloved Texas burger chain, is spreading its culinary wings into new territory with the launch of a fresh item dubbed Whatawings. Shaking up the menu in 2024, these boneless chicken offerings pack a punch with an array of savory sauces. Available as a limited-time treat, adrenaline junkies for flavor might want to order these sooner rather than later.
Bumping up its game, Whataburger is catering to the diversified palates of its fan base. Lovingly breaded white-meat chicken bites are taking a flyover, landing on plates in groups of nine. They come baptized in four different sauces, making for an indulgent foray into fast-food innovation. According to a statement obtained by CultureMap Austin, Whataburger Chief Administrative Officer Alexander Ivannikov highlighted, “Our customers have a passion for Whataburger’s proprietary sauces. So, we’re excited to spread our wings around that enthusiasm by pairing favorites like Honey Butter and Sweet & Spicy with our premium chicken tender bites.”
A sugary blast from the past is tagging along with the introduction of the Whatawings— the Dr. Pepper Shake has made its grand return. It's a throwback that's bound to get tongues wagging and straws busy. Fans of the fizzy drink can once again revel in their favorite shake form of the soda, joining the roster of the brand's latest endeavors, as MySanAntonio.com reported.
Prior to launch, Whatawings were taste-tested and originally meant to feature only buffalo and sweet and spicy flavors. Fortunately for diner's taste buds, adoration for the honey barbecue and honey butter dissolved any chance of them not making the cut. “The original intent was only to release the buffalo and sweet and spicy flavors,” Whataburger's executive chef James Sanchez told MySanAntonio.com. He continued, confirming passengers onboard test audiences' flights were so charmed by the honey-themed sauces that the chain felt compelled to include them.
Making a decision on just how to enjoy these poultry pieces might just be the toughest choice of the new year. With a respectable price tag— $9.50 alone and $12.50 for a combo, according to CultureMap Austin—patrons are already getting their orders in. Just remember, much like a firework show, the Whatawings are destined to disappear from the menu, as fleeting as they are delicious.
