A tragic scene unfolded in Wyandotte as a 55-year-old woman died after her car careened into the icy Detroit River. The incident, identified by authorities as a suicide, took place Thursday afternoon at Bishop Park, a location familiar to many as a peaceful riverside enclave. According to FOX 2 Detroit, police confirmed that the woman drove through a railing.
Witnesses who were present described an alarming situation as first responders hastened to intervene. The car initially remained atop the river's icy surface. However, despite efforts, which included tossing a life raft and rope to the vehicle, the woman "did not acknowledge them," this grim scene disclosed by the Detroit Free Press. In short order, the ice succumbed and the car, with the woman inside, slipped beneath the frigid water.
