In a routine traffic halt on New Year's Day, authorities in Big River, CA, pulled over a man later found to be packing two loaded firearms. The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department reported that around 8:54 p.m. on Highway 62 & Rio Mesa, deputies stopped 23-year-old Bishap Laurenzana from Yuma, AZ for a vehicle code violation.
During the stop, deputies discovered that Laurenzana was unlawfully cruising without a driver's license and carrying a loaded gun in his waistband. A further search of the suspect's vehicle unveiled an additional loaded firearm tucked away in the glove compartment. Laurenzana was subsequently arrested under California Penal Code Section 25850(A) for carrying a loaded firearm and Vehicle Code Section 12500(A) for driving without a license, as stated in the department's press release.
Despite the severity of the findings, Laurenzana was released at the scene with a citation and a court date to answer to the charges brought against him. The authorities have encouraged anyone with additional information regarding the case to step forward and contact Deputy K. Sutton at the Colorado River Station / Needles Police Department.
