Chaos ensued on an Austin highway Thursday night as an 18-wheeler car hauler tipped and sprawled across the North U.S. 183 flyover, wreaking havoc on traffic for hours into the night. According to the KXAN, the Austin Fire Department rushed to the scene after receiving reports of the accident shortly after 9 p.m., where they found the massive vehicle overturned, its contents threatening to spill onto the eastbound State Highway 45 below.
Even as traffic backed up and the night crawled on, details on the cause of the rollover or the condition of the driver and potential passengers were not evident. Photos circling online showed the vehicle—a car hauler—lying helplessly on its side, a steel giant upended. Meanwhile, officials from the Austin Police Department confirmed that no injuries were obvious, but an investigation into the incident was ongoing, a nugget of news offered by the KVUE.

The incident caused the closure of the flyover ramp where U.S. 183 meets SH 45, an arterial route that many use to bypass the bustling traffic typical of a growing Austin. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes as crews worked to right the upturned hauler and clear the scene of potential hazards.
