The city's gearing up for a total solar eclipse, a rare astronomical event that will plunge parts of the U.S. into daytime darkness. The Levitt Pavilion Lawn in Arlington, TX, will be the town's central viewing spot, Arlington Parks and Recreation announced recently.
The event, dubbed the Great North American Eclipse on April 8, will offer up a unique afternoon of skywatching fun and education from 11 AM to 3 PM, and best of all, it's free to attend, the live DJ and the food trucks will be serving up tunes and eats making for ideal festival vibes while those first 3,000 lucky stargazers will snag complimentary solar eclipse glasses to watch the spectacle safely. Oh, and don't forget your blankets and chairs because this is a lawn seating affair folks.
According to the City of Arlington, Texas, the Great North American Eclipse will slash a band of darkness across 13 states with Arlington poised to experience over three minutes of the so-called totality, when the moon fully blocks out the sun. It's a skywatcher's dream and a science lesson all rolled into one, so mark your calendars.
Prepare to be gobsmacked or whatever it is they say when something truly jaw-dropping happens, because this spectacle is part of Arlington Parks and Recreation’s Centennial Celebration which is a pretty neat way to honor a hundred years of service if you ask me, it's events like these that bring communities together in wonderment and to be frank, community togetherness is something we could all use a shot of these days.
