A French Bulldog named Hugo became the latest victim of a disturbing trend in pet theft, having been stolen at gunpoint from a San Antonio park. The incident, which took place last Tuesday, involved two men who threatened a dog trainer and forcibly took the dog, valued for its breed. According to a report by KENS 5, the trainer, who often visited McAllister Park for her work, had changed her usual training spot to Pavilion 2 because of another event taking place.
The situation escalated when the assailants parked nearby and one of them, armed with a gun, approached her demanding Hugo, the French Bulldog. "He looked at me and was like, 'I just wanna to take the dog. You're not gonna give me any issues. No one has to get hurt. I just want the dog,'" the trainer recounted to KENS 5. Despite her initial refusal, the French Bulldog was taken and the suspects fled the scene in a black car. The car was notably detailed as having chipping paint and a missing front license plate, a description that has been crucial to the ongoing investigation by the San Antonio Police Department.
Hugo's ordeal sheds light on the nationwide issue of pet theft, particularly with breeds like French Bulldogs that carry high price tags. As reported by BNN Breaking, such crimes are not only emotionally devastating for the owners but also bring a substantial financial burden, reflected in the cash reward offered for Hugo's safe return. This monetary value attributed to certain dog breeds seemingly fuels the increasing frequency of these thefts.
In response to the alarming trend, dog owners are being urged to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures to safeguard their pets against theft. The SAPD is actively investigating the case, hoping to quickly track down the culprits behind Hugo's abduction. Any potential leads can provide significant aid to their efforts and offer some semblance of resolution and comfort to those whose companions have been so forcefully taken from them.
