
A tragic event unfolded in the early hours of Valentine's Day when a pedestrian was fatally struck on W Highway 290 in Austin. According to the Austin Police Department, around 2:27 a.m., a pickup truck collided with an SUV and then hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The authorities have yet to release the pedestrian's identity.
Jacob Sussman, the driver of the pickup, was arrested and faces charges of Intoxication and Manslaughter. The SUV's driver did not sustain injuries and is actively cooperating with the ongoing investigation. This unfortunate accident marks the city's eighth fatal crash of the year, tallying up to eight deaths.
