A grim portrait of self-defense claimed a life in Austin last Saturday, as police were called to a fatal shooting on N Lamar Boulevard. The Austin Police Department (APD) officers arrived at 7801 N Lamar Boulevard shortly after 2 p.m. responding to a call from a man who alleged to have shot someone in defense of his own life, as detailed in a press release by the department.

The tragic scene unfolded when the caller encountered Christopher Hernandez allegedly causing damage to his tires. The confrontation quickly escalated, leading the caller to fatally shoot Hernandez, who had reportedly brandished a knife. Police found Hernandez unresponsive, and despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene just minutes later at 2:34 p.m.

As reported by the Austin Police Department, homicide detectives and crime scene specialists were dispatched to thoroughly examine the area for evidence. The caller, who had remained on the scene, was said to be cooperative with the authorities as they worked to piece together the events that led to the violent incident.

The police have yet to make an arrest, reflecting the complexities of cases where self-defense is quickly claimed, and the investigation is still actively underway.
