A man was gunned down at a car club meet-up in Austin, setting off a citywide manhunt for the shooter, who remains at large. The Austin Police Department (APD) identified the victim as Christian Loredo, who suffered fatal gunshot wounds this past Saturday at approximately 6:25 p.m. in the Fiesta Mart parking lot on 3909 North IH 35 Northbound, according to a press release.
APD officers arrived at the scene to find Loredo inside a vehicle, struck by gunfire. Loredo's life hung by a thread as Austin-Travis County EMS technicians worked to save him, but their valiant efforts ended in heartbreak when he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m., as reported by the APD.
The investigation, led by homicide detectives and crime scene specialists, has unearthed initial findings that suggest the incident sparked from an altercation at the car club meeting. Loredo found himself embroiled in a verbal confrontation with individuals from another vehicle— a spat that spiraled into chaos when one of the suspects drew a weapon and fired, striking Loredo. The perpetrator then fled the crime scene, leaving few clues behind.
The authorities are urgently appealing to the public for any leads. "Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS," the APD statement read. Anonymous tips can also be funneled through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, which offers a reward of up to $1,000 that could lead to an arrest in this chilling case.
