The Austin Fire Department (AFD) was on the scene in the 7500 block of Fireoak Drive after a 4-inch gas main was struck, according to reports from KVUE. The mishap occurred around 10:55 a.m., leading crews to take quick action by evacuating residents and cutting off the electricity to six homes in the vicinity.
The situation, which unfolded in one of Austin’s residential pockets, had the local authorities stringently advising the public to exercise caution and anticipate slowdowns while maneuvering through the affected zones. “The gas flow was clamped,” said AFD in the afternoon, noting that the emergency was finally under control.
Despite the imminent threat that had been to a whimper by late afternoon, Texas Gas Service crews stayed the course, working persistently at the site to ensure the issue was fully corrected.
