In the early morning hours of February 21, a chilling homicide at the Super 8 Motel on S IH 35 shattered the stillness of the night. The Austin Police Department was summoned to the scene after a distress call at around 12:02 a.m. informed them of a man, later identified as Rahsaan Dobbins, in dire straits and surrounded by armed men. When officers arrived, they were greeted by the sound of gunfire and a grim discovery.
According to the Austin Police Department, officers found an unclothed Dobbins having just fired his weapon, fatally striking Warnero Young. Despite the chaos, Dobbins surrendered his firearm upon police command and was promptly detained. Young, found on the motel's stairs, received emergency aid but to no avail – he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Further investigation revealed a terrifying snapshot of paranoia as Dobbins, holed up in his room, shot Young in a frenzied state, mistakenly believing him to be a threat. What makes this incident particularly tragic is Dobbins’ admission that Young was unknown to him, a passerby caught in the crosshairs of unfounded terror. Dobbins now faces charges of 1st Degree Felony Murder and is being held at the Travis County Jail.
The homicide team, alongside crime scene specialists, have combed through the scene, searching for clues to piece together the events that led to this fatal encounter. While details keep unraveling, an appeal has been made to the public for information. According to a statement obtained by the Austin Police Department, anyone with knowledge of the crime is urged to come forward. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
The motel, now a crime scene, has become the center of local attention as the community reels from the sudden violence. As the investigation continues, the Austin Police Department remains steadfast in its search for answers and justice for the victim. The incident has not only left a man dead but also a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of violence and the fragility of life.
