Bay City commuters will need to adjust their travel plans once more, as the anticipated reopening of the Independence Bridge has hit a snag. Initially scheduled to welcome back vehicles on Wednesday, the bridge is now set to be out of commission through Friday afternoon. As reported by MLive, Bay City Bridge Partners announced via their Facebook page, throwing a wrench into the weekday traffic flow.

According to WSGW, the delay comes as a result of unexpected obstructions encountered during the installation of guard rails, prompting the extended closure. While the bridge was initially expected to reopen by midweek, drivers will now have to detour to the Veterans Memorial Bridge to cross the river.

The bridge, an arterial link over the Saginaw River, had been closed since January 31 to facilitate significant repairs. According to the official City of Bay City website, the project's scope included the demolition of the east side bridge deck and the casting and curing of new concrete, along with preparations to shift traffic to the west side deck. These efforts were supposed to be wrapped up by February 14.
