In an extraordinary display of generosity, a customer mourning the loss of a friend left a staggering $10,000 tip at a Benton Harbor cafe, splitting it among surprised staff members. This act of kindness occurred at the Mason Jar Cafe. As reported by Freep.com, the anonymous benefactor chose to honor his friend's memory by giving each of the eight servers on duty a share of the tip, amounting to $1,250 per person.
Tim Sweeney, the establishment's general manager, was taken aback by the gesture. Eating alone in a black suit and blue tie, the middle-aged man immersed the cafe in his silent tribute and left before the magnitude of his gift dawned on the staff. Found themselves on the receiving end of the customer's magnanimity, the servers caught off guard by the gentleman, dressed in a suit-spun web of loss and gratitude. According to WNDU, Ava White, one of the benefitting waitresses, said, “We do have that time where we’re not making as much money as in the summer, but everyone goes through things and I know it’s hard sometimes, but you never know what or who is going to bless you,”
Before this moment, the largest gratuity the cafe reportedly had received was a mere fraction, a $1,200 tip, as shared by owner Jayme Cousins in an interview with WNDU.
While the servers were left reeling in "absolute disbelief," the cafe's management took to social media to express gratitude, emphasizing the power of kindness in difficult times. "Things can feel real heavy sometimes, but this was such an amazing act to have seen first hand in our restaurant. So to everyone doing what they can for themselves, and for others, we see you, thank you, and appreciate you. Keep sharing the love where you can folks " the cafe stated, according to a post cited by NBC Chicago.
