Residents of Blanco, Texas can finally quench their thirst for normalcy as the city has reestablished water service after a major leak caused chaos over the weekend. The water disruption prompted officials to issue an urgent call to action, ramping up restrictions to Stage 6 in a frantic attempt to manage the city's dwindling water reserves.
In a dramatic community-wide effort, a tip from a local led to the discovery of the elusive leak Saturday morning. Blanco Mayor Mike Arnold relayed the good news in a series of Facebook updates, the tensions apparent as the city's tanks hovered ominously close to empty. "We have about one hour of water left in our city water system," Arnold said, according to a CBS Austin report. His resolve was echoed across the city as residents were implored to report any signs of the runaway water.
The breakthrough came when a concerned citizen pointed out "a major leak right here" on the northern edge of Blanco. This observation enabled the city to take swift action, isolating the issue and mitigating what could have been a significantly more dire situation. Mayor Arnold's gratitude was evident. "By God's grace, we dodged a bullet," he told CBS Austin in an interview.
Following the fix, Blanco swiftly reverted to Stage 2 water restrictions, reflecting the city's quick recovery. As city tanks refilled, officials assured residents there was no need to boil water. The leak, reportedly affecting only one customer, has been addressed, with repairs underway. This relief comes after a string of water woes for Blanco, including a significant leak last month and summer troubles stemming from a break in a key supply pipe, as reported by KVUE.
