Fire crew were to quick respond around 6 p.m., where they confronted flames consuming the rear porches of the building's upper levels. The severity of the blaze prompted a second-alarm call for additional support. The Boston Fire Department reported that the conflagration extended its reach into the attic, causing significant damage to various parts of the second and third floors, including bedrooms and kitchens.
The injured firefighter, whose condition was not updated following the initial assessment of minor injuries, was part of the extensive effort to douse the flames. Crews were forced to revisit the scene a mere three hours later when a hotspot was discovered to have flared up. The rekindle was swiftly extinguished, enabling firefighters to clear the area by around 9:30 p.m., a department spokesperson detailed.
While the exact cause of the destructive event is still to be determined, it's ongoing investigation serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of fire. "Officials said the fire spread to the attic and caused major damage," reported The Boston Globe. Many residents now must find to quickly rebuild their lives in the aftermath of the blaze, as the fire not only charred their abodes but uprooted their sense of security.
