Boston police made a significant arrest in the bustling heart of downtown. Responding to complaints of drug use and trespassing near Tremont and Winter streets, officers of the Anti-Crime Unit from District A-1 spotted a suspect visibly flouting the law with an open container of alcohol.
When the suspect, later identified as Robert Offutt, noticed the police presence, he made a break down the city streets, triggering a foot chase. After a heated scuffle, police cuffed Offutt, but not before spotting a discarded firearm, according to details released by the Boston Police Department. The seized weapon, a KBI PMK380 with an obliterated serial number and loaded with ammunition, was joined by evidence of narcotics possession; officers discovered substances believed to be crack cocaine and cocaine among Offutt's belongings.
But the incident took a deceptive turn as Offutt attempted to conceal his identity, offering up a false name during the booking process. Persistence by the officers eventually peeled back his layers of lies, revealing multiple active warrants waiting for him. The litany of charges landed on Offutt's plate includes unlawful firearm and ammunition possession, possession with intent to distribute class B drugs, resisting arrest, identity fraud, and providing a false name to the police. His arraignment is set to take place at Boston Municipal Court.
