
The Boston Police Department has teamed up with Sportsmen's Tennis & Enrichment Center to kick off the 2024 season of the Volley Against Violence program, an initiative aiming to strengthen community bonds and empower youth through sports. This venture encourages youngsters from all over the city to engage in free tennis sessions every week, where they will not only learn the game but also essential life skills.
According to the Boston Police Department's press release, officers from Area B and C were present at this year's launch, serving as mentors and coaches alongside Sportsmen’s professional coaches. The sessions are designed to offer a unique platform for young individuals to interact with law enforcement in a positive setting, fostering a sense of trust and respect.
The program touts a variety of benefits, including the development of teamwork, goal setting, and conflict resolution skills." Participants gain the ability to collaborate within a team, set and attain goals, foster mutual respect, develop positive relationships with law enforcement, and resolve conflicts," was outlined in the Boston Police Department's statement.
The Volley Against Violence program includes a life skills curriculum that addresses emotional and cognitive aspects. With the aid of this curriculum, kids are taught to navigate through everyday conflicts and challenges by exploring alternative solutions.
