ICE's ERO Philadelphia division has successfully extradited Miramar Martins De Brito—a Brazilian national wanted in his home country for drug trafficking offenses—back to Brazil, as officially announced on Feb. 26.
De Brito's saga to quickly return home began when U.S. Border Patrol agents nabbed him near the Texan city of El Paso on Feb. 12, 2019. The man, who faced charges of entering the United States unlawfully, was released pending a court decision and enrolled in the Alternatives to Detention Program. However, he failed to comply with the program's check-in requirements and became an absconder in August 2020, according to the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The Brazilian courts issued a warrant for his arrest on Feb. 10, 2022. Mere days later, a targeted enforcement operation in Newark, New Jersey, saw De Brito apprehended. He was subsequently detained at a facility in Elizabeth, New Jersey, before being transferred to ERO Philadelphia at the Moshannon Valley Processing Center in Philipsburg.
It was on Aug. 25, 2023, that an immigration judge in Richmond, Virginia, decisively ordered De Brito to be removed from the United States. An ERO Philadelphia team completed the removal process, ensuring De Brito's return to Brazil on Feb. 23 to face the pending drug trafficking charges, as per the U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
