A Brooklyn man, known as “Gordo,” faces up to 20 years in the clink for shuttling a whopping 50 kilos of cocaine from New York to Beantown. Dinelson Hernandez-Rodriguez, 30, was slapped with a conviction for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute, according to a justice department announcement. The federal jury in Boston found him guilty, with a sentencing date set for May 21 by U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris.

Caught in the act, Hernandez-Rodriguez was intercepted last August as he drove a car rigged with a secret compartment, smuggling kilos of cocaine into Hyde Park, a day following another co-conspirator pulled the same risky move. He was part of a larger drug operation being investigated since October 2019, and by the feds, it was believed that the drugs were supplied by New York sources. After peddling his illegal wares, "Gordo" tried to get $240,240 in drug dough back to New York, only to be snagged by the fuzz.

Hernandez-Rodriguez is the ninth to go down in this case, with others either pleading guilty or convicted after trial. This drug bust is part of a larger crackdown by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF), a multi-agency effort focusing on nabbing the big fish in the narcotics and money laundering pond. The initiative teams up agents from various agencies, like one big happy family, to take down the top-tier criminal heavies that pose a threat to Uncle Sam's turf.

The charges against Hernandez-Rodriguez could land him in the slammer for two decades, with at least three years of supervised release and a potential fine of a cool million smackers.
