Fraser, Michigan was on high alert when Richards Middle School went into lockdown Friday after a bullet was found in a school bathroom. The discovery prompted strict security measures at the adjacent Fraser High School as well, which was placed in a lockout situation, reported The Macomb Daily.

Parents received communication from Kristin Sommer, the director of community relations for Fraser Public Schools, earlier in the day, informing them about the incident. Sommer assured families that "All students are safe and in their classrooms, while the police work through their investigation," as she informed parents they could collect their children from either school if desired, this assurance was also echoed by Macomb County Public Alerts.

By late Friday afternoon, local officials confirmed to WWJ that all students were safely returned to their homes after K9 units swept the middle school. Throughout the investigation, education at Fraser High School continued without disruption, though for a period, students were not allowed to leave the premises.

Speculation among students led to rumors of a gun being found in a locker. The Macomb Daily attempted to verify these claims, but police and educators did not respond to inquiries. Despite the anxiety-inducing reports, Sommer remained focused on communicating that the students' safety was not compromised at any time.

This string of ammunition-related incidents in schools comes in the same week that Jennifer Crumbley, mother of the Oxford High School shooter, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. The conviction stems from a tragic event back in November 2021 where four students were killed, as noted by WWJ.
