A Covington mother has been found guilty of a 2020 shooting that killed one woman and injured the father of her child, as per local authorities. Dalanna Bailey, 26, inflicted deadly gunshot wounds while her own infant was in her arms, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
With less than an hour of deliberation, the Newton County jury convicted Bailey on multiple charges including malice murder, felony murder, and criminal attempt to commit murder, among others, according to the Alcovy Judicial Circuit District Attorney Randy McGinley, in a statement obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The tragic shooting took place when the victim, La’Peachah Nash, was driving Deshawn Grayson to Bailey's apartment to give her money for their child.
During the trial, prosecutors painted a grim picture of the events that unfolded, detailing that Bailey started to argue with Grayson at her doorstep, dangerously armed with a gun while holding her young infant. In a desperate attempt to secure his and his infant's safety, Grayson tried futilely to disarm Bailey before trying to flee the heated situation, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
In a violent outburst, as Grayson and Nash attempted to speed away in their vehicle, Bailey chased after them and fired three shots into the driver’s side window. This resulted in severe injuries for Grayson and a fatal head wound for Nash, who was kept on life support briefly for organ donation purposes before her death, conveyed District Attorney McGinley to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
After committing the heinous act, Bailey immediately fled with the infant, only to be apprehended hours later at a motel in DeKalb County. She has since been incarcerated at the Newton jail, awaiting a sentencing scheduled for March 7. Her charges also include two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and third-degree cruelty to children, solidifying the severity of her actions that day, FOX 5 Atlanta reported.
