A dispute at a Dallas convenience store escalated to a fatal shooting, leaving one man dead near a DART station on Wednesday afternoon. According to FOX 4 News, the argument began inside the store on Denton Drive near Northwest Highway and then moved outside. It was there that one man opened fire on the other, at around 1:30 p.m., next to the Bachman Lake Train Station.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be disclosed, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Following the incident, DART police quickly apprehended Travon Hightower, charging him with murder. While the details are murky regarding whether Hightower and the victim were acquainted, the proximity to the train station prompted DART police involvement in the response.

Hightower was taken into custody after a witness told Dallas police where to find him, reports The Dallas Morning News. The 53-year-old now also faces a charge for tampering or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair, with the Dallas County jail records showing his bond set at $1 million for the murder charge. At this stage, it is not clear if Hightower has obtained legal representation.

While in police custody, Hightower confessed to shooting the victim multiple times, claiming he felt threatened and sought to avoid harm, despite DART bus drivers witnessing the confrontation and hearing Hightower making threatening statements with a gun in hand, according to the arrest warrant affidavit. The same bus drivers indicated that they did not believe the victim posed any threat. Hightower also admitted to discarding the firearm, allegedly passing it off to an unknown third party after the shooting.
