A Metro Detroit man, with a criminal past marred by murder convictions, has been found guilty of fatally shooting his two neighbors following a squabble outside their Eastpointe apartment complex over two years ago.
Dennis Evans, 62, was convicted last Friday on charges including two counts of first-degree premeditated murder in the deaths of 37-year-old Dorian Mitchell and 50-year-old Christie Davis, who lost their lives on January 27, 2022, the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office stated, as reported by CBS Detroit; Evans not only ended their years of breath and dreams under a needless storm of bullets, but he shortly thereafter fled to the expansive hush of Texas, only to be hauled back to face a string of charges upon his capture.
During the investigation, authorities discovered a dangerous combination of heroin and fentanyl in the apartment of Evans, and his arrest followed a taut, four-day manhunt concluding in the San Antonio area, as mentioned by WWJ Newsradio 950. This vile substance, hidden within the confines of his abode, further added counts to Evans' indictment, including delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance 50-449 grams.
The jury, incubating decisions through the three-day trial, also landed Evans with three counts of felony firearm - second offense and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to The Detroit News adding, more scores to his life already littered with the wreckage of past sins and punishments, in the wake of this recent violent tragedy, Evans is fated to confront a potential life sentence without the chance of parole when sentencing occurs on April 3.
“Justice has been served for the victims and their families, and our community can find comfort in knowing that a dangerous individual has been held accountable for his actions,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido heralded, a sentiment echoed in the release from the Prosecutor's Office and shared by CBS Detroit. The lawyer for Evans, Joshua Jones, has yet to furnish a public response to the convictions levied against his client.
