Residents of Eden Prairie had the chance to sip some joe and chat up the local law enforcement this Wednesday thanks to the city's Coffee with a Cop event. Held at the Eden Prairie Senior Center, Police Chief Matt Sackett and officers from the Eden Prairie Police Department spent the morning fielding questions from citizens and deepening community ties over free caffeine and pastries.
The gathering, brew courtesy of the Eden Prairie Senior Center and the Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund served up more than just hot drinks; it was a forum designed for residents to voice concerns and get to know the officers that patrol their neighborhoods. The next event, promising the same informal chitchat setting, is slated for March 12 at the local McDonald’s on Prairie Center Drive, according to a press release.
This initiative is part of a national effort to break down barriers between police and the communities they serve by fostering a relaxed dialogue outside the usual confines of law enforcement interactions. Such events highlight the department's commitment to accessibility and community policing principles, the press release noted.
For those interested in attending, the next Coffee with a Cop session will run from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., where attendees can expect, conversations aside, a side of McAfee Brew. The Eden Prairie Police have a history of organizing these meets and are encouraging people to take advantage of this opportunity to voice their opinions and concerns in a more personal setting with their local cops.
