An elderly man was found dead in the parking lot of a Dacula apartment complex designed for residents 55 and older, in what authorities describe as a tragic incident. Gwinnett County police responded to a call at the Preserve at Peachtree Shoals Apartments after a report of a medical emergency surfaced in the wee hours, officials told FOX 5 Atlanta.
The man, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was discovered by a passerby near the curb, situated between two parked cars. According to WSB-TV, the victim was dressed only in his undergarments and had visible blood on his body. Officers found an wheelchair on the sidewalk, suggesting he may have ventured outside during the night.
The police, after combing through surveillance footage, believe the victim collided with a nearby guardrail and subsequently fell from his wheelchair. There has been speculation about foul play, however, officials assert that the death is not being treated as a homicide.
