The FBI is turning to the public for help in apprehending a group of robbers dubbed the "Chesapeake Bandits," wanted for a string of armored vehicle heists across South Los Angeles, Hawthorne, and Inglewood. These brazen thugs have allegedly been tying up drivers and holding them at gunpoint during the series of robberies that spanned from February 2022 to February 2023. A notable reward has been posted for information that could lead to their arrest.
A hefty sum of $25,000 is being dangled by the feds as bait for details that will lead to the capture of these crooks. Describing the modus operandi of the bandits, the FBI alleges that they overtake the armored car drivers servicing drive-thru ATMs or exiting businesses. The drivers are zip-tied and controlled at gunpoint while the thieves plunder the armored vehicles. In a particularly disturbing incident, a shot was fired, though, by some miracle, no injuries were reported. The FBI's Los Angeles Field Office provided this information in an attempt to rally public involvement.
