In Fremont, California, a local man with an unsettling history of criminal behavior has been cuffed once again for invading the privacy of an unsuspecting resident. The Fremont Police Department announced that Daniel Todd Martin, a 56-year-old resident of Fremont, was nabbed earlier this month for creeping around and peeking into a woman's bedroom through her window, according to a statement released on Facebook.
The disturbing incident, which threw the victim into a state of distress, occurred on the morning of January 29, when she caught sight of Martin leering at her while she was undressed. The quick-thinking victim called out, and Martin, the unwelcome voyeur, beat it. Police pinned down the perpetrator thanks to clear-cut evidence from video surveillance capturing his unsavory act. Martin's rap sheet unspools a history of similar transgressions, with seven prior convictions for "Peeking," four for trespassing, and two for burglary in the first degree.
Upon his arrest on February 7 by the department's Crime Reduction Unit, Martin buckled under questioning. He confessed to the prying eyes offense, which chalked up another charge to his name. Having taken up the case, the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office slapped Martin with Penal Code 647(i), solidifying the charge for peeking into an inhabited dwelling.
The Fremont Police Department's communique underscores a message of vigilance among community members. To bolster neighborhood safety, they urge anyone who witnesses suspicious behavior to step up and report it by contacting their non-emergency line or by providing anonymous tips through text. The message is loud and clear: "See something and say something!" In emergencies, the department implores residents not to hesitate and dial 911 without delay.
