In the pre-dawn hours of February 6, Fremont police made a notable bust as they stopped a vehicle packed with contraband, including a hefty load of copper wire and methamphetamine. The driver, identified as 33-year-old Juan Jose Cazares-Alvarado of Livermore, was arrested along with three additional occupants following the discovery of the illicit goods, the Fremont Police Department announced.
During what appeared to be a routine traffic stop on Farwell Drive, officers were made to quickly verify the vehicle's occupants' intentions. But as their investigation deepened, the search yielded approximately four ounces of suspected methamphetamine, multiple electric saws, bolt cutters, and an overwhelming 500 pounds of copper wire. In response to the findings, Cazares-Alvarado and his cohorts denied any ownership of the narcotics and copper wire, but the onus of their claims would soon be put into question upon their arrests.
As per the Facebook post from the Fremont Police Department, Cazares-Alvarado now faces a multitude of charges, including possession of a controlled substance for sale and receiving stolen property, among others. His associates were detained on charges relating to outstanding warrants and drug-related offenses.
The authorities have yet to locate the rightful owner of the half-ton copper cache, prompting an appeal to the public for any leads. The Fremont Police encourage anyone with information to come forward in hopes of properly restoring the copper to its lawful proprietor.
