A tragic incident in Henry County, Georgia claimed the life of an 8-year-old girl after she was struck by a vehicle while trying to board her school bus. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the young girl, identified as Adalynn Pierce, was hit on Feb. 1 by a Ford Fusion driven by 25-year-old Kaylee Andre, as Adalynn was attempting to get onto her stopped school bus. Georgia State Patrol reported that the bus had its red lights flashing, and stop signs were displayed.
After being airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with life-threatening injuries, Adalynn later succumbed to her injuries. The driver, who failed to stop for the loading school bus, has subsequently been taken into custody. Andre faces numerous charges including first-degree vehicular homicide, as she has been accused to have failed to exercise due care during the incident.
“It’s crazy to think about something like that happening to a child when you have kids. Well even if you don’t have kids. It’s very, very sad to hear about. But I can just imagine what those parents are going through,” a concerned parent, Lindsay Bridges, told WSB-TV.
Kaylee Kristee Andre is currently being held in Henry County Jail. The charges against her include homicide by vehicle in the first degree and failing to stop for Adalynn's school bus while it was loading and unloading.
