Chaos erupted in Antioch as gunshots led to a violent car crash on E. 18th Street & Hillcrest Avenue. The Antioch Police Department reported that the incident, which occurred at 6:50 PM on February 6, started when two males assaulted another man in a parking lot. In a dangerous turn of events, the victim determined not to go quietly into the night, retrieved a handgun, and fired multiple shots at the assailants' vehicle as they tried to escape.
The get-away car, in an effort to hastily flee from the scene, performed a U-turn against a red light and collided with an innocent bystander's vehicle traveling east. The suspects quickly abandoned their car and escaped on foot into the enveloping night. Authorities have yet to locate the occupants and the shooter, who also fled the scene by car. According to the Antioch Police Department's press release, the driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital with injuries from the crash.
