After a tense 14-hour standoff, an armed man who had barricaded himself inside a Port Huron residence is now in custody, according to police. The standoff, which began on Saturday evening and spilled into early Sunday morning, prompted authorities to issue a shelter-in-place order for the surrounding neighborhood at the intersection of 12th and Chestnut streets. The ordeal came to a close when police apprehended the gunman around 9 a.m. Sunday, as FOX 2 Detroit reported.
During the standoff, the Port Huron Police Department had to ask residents to take cover inside their homes and stay clear of doors and windows as the suspect sporadically fired shots from his home throughout the night. To subdue the gunman, police deployed an irritant gas into the residence.
