HAYS COUNTY, Texas — Ahead of a high-stakes presidential election, Hays County officials are stepping up their game in election security by forming a new "Election Integrity Task Force." Designed to directly address voter complaints and maintain the sanctity of the voting process, this initiative is aimed at safeguarding electoral integrity by promptly responding to potential issues that voters may encounter at the polls.

The task force will be a joint effort between the Hays County Elections Office, the District Attorney's Office, and local law enforcement. Jennifer Doinoff, Hays County Elections Administrator, explained that although allegations of election misconduct are not commonplace within the county, the creation of the task force was prompted by a sense of duty to reinforce voter confidence, as reported by KXAN.

In a move to combat misinformation and doubts surrounding the electoral process, Doinoff said, "Ever since 2020, we’ve had more interest in elections, more concerns and elections more doubt – that has had its toll on voter confidence." Additionally, the task force anticipates handling specific grievances, like illegal electioneering – the act of expressing a preference for a candidate within 100 feet of a polling place, which, while not an issue in Hays County before, has cropped up elsewhere in the country, according to KXAN.

Reinforcing the initiative's objective, Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra said, "Democracy thrives on transparency and accountability, especially during elections. This initiative underscores our deep commitment to ensuring every vote is counted accurately safeguarding the election’s integrity for all." As part of the new measure, residents can forward their complaints or concerns to a designated email, [email protected], as stated in KVUE.

While the creation of the task force is proactive, Doinoff remarked on the infrequency of voter complaints leading to criminal charges. However, the team stands ready to investigate any that might emerge. "We hope not to use [the email]," she said, "But if there are concerns out there...We want it to go here so that people can have their questions answered expeditiously and kind of have a resolution to their concerns," per KXAN.
